SPRAY TAN FAQ
How do self tanners work?
The principle tanning agent used in all self tanning products is Dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient, which is derived from sugar beets, reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening or tanned appearance on the surface of the skin. The development of color takes anywhere from 2-4 hours and the intensity of color depends on DHA concentration in the product as well as each person's skin characteristics. The color will gradually fade through natural skin exfoliation just like a natural tan from the sun.
Is the DHA in sunless tanning products safe to use?
The FDA has approved DHA for external application on the skin. For misting applications, the FDA recommends protective measures be taken to guard against mist inhalation, ingestion, and contact with eyes. How long does the appointment take?
The appointment takes 15-20 min. Each appointment is set for 30 min for extra time. If you are more than 15 min late, I may not be able to accommodate you.
How long do I have to wait before showering?
I strongly suggest waiting at least 12 hours with the Standard spray. If you are doing Express, the wait time is only about 1-4 hours!
What should I wear during my session?
You are welcome to wear as little or as much as you are comfortable with, however undergarments are strongly recommended per FDA guidelines.
How many days will my spray tan last?
The “life span” of a sunless tan depends on your skin’s natural exfoliation. On average, spray tans last about 7-10 days. Pre and post care are extremely important to increase the longevity of your tan.
Do spray tan solutions have sunscreen in them?
Spray tan solutions do not contain any SPF and your skin is not protected. Please be sure to wear a lotion based sunscreen with your L.A. Sun Spray Tan.
Can I get a spray tan if I'm pregnant or breast feeding?
DHA, the active ingredient in spray tan solutions, has never been tested extensively on pregnant or breastfeeding women. We recommend consulting your physician before getting a spray tan. We also advise waiting until you are no longer breast feeding. Click here for more information about DHA and how it is used in sunless tanning products.
Can I get a spray tan if I have a sunburn or my skin is peeling?
It is not recommended to get a spray tan if you have a sunburn or your skin is peeling.
